A much better day today.

It was still cool and slightly raining off and on but we didn't let that stop us. We decided to see what we could outside when it wasn't raining and hide inside of museums when it was. First stop: The Sibelius monument in Sibelius Park. It was the usual bus/train/tram to get there but it was worth it.

This pipe like sculpture, entitled Passio Musicae and the work of Eila Hiltunen, was to be the artist's only contribution but the people were like "Oh, no, how will anyone know this is about Sibelius? He did not write very much music for organ." So she added this:
Mr. Sibelius himself.

There are over 600 welded pipes in a wave like structure.
Having stumbled across a forum on how to get to the park by tram I also read about a cute little cafe across from the park and on the waterfront. I love when people leave little travel tips like this.

Same cafe, seen from a distance.
 So many baby geese!
This goose was serious about us keeping our distance. We respect that.
View from our outside cafe table. You could smell the cinnamon from fresh baked pastries as you were walking up to the cafe. We had a cinnamon bun and coffee each. It was heaven.
Okay, this car cracked me up. The "hammer and sickle" is a meat tenderizer and a gardening tool. I also like the tea kettle welded to the hood.

Opposite view from our table. If you look closely you will see two more baby geese.
 Dramatic skies over Helsinki.
We caught a bus back towards the center and stopped at the Kiasma modern art museum.
Cool spaces in the museum, even the ramps from one floor to the next.
Yes, this is exactly what it looks like.
I'm in an immersive environment. It started out being really relaxing.
Not so relaxing now. Lots of images of violence.
 What's going on here?
This. Don, being a nerd and tech head, especially liked this exhibit. By the way, the theme in the whole museum was digital technology and how we relate to it and was called "Hello World".

So, this is me being really dorky with the virtual tech. Loads of fun and dizzy making.
Don could see what I was seeing by viewing the screen behind me. It wasn't the same as "being there", I kept reaching out my hands, feeling for walls and fending off virtual shapes.

A garden in a bottle made of circuitry and wires.
 Mashed and molded monitors.
A small part of this artist's "timeline to the event horizon"

We then walked three blocks to the Ateneum Art Museum, one of the museums of the Finnish National Gallery.

The third floor was dedicated to the designs and architecture of Alvar Aalto. You might recognize his Savoy Vase or his iconic bent wood chairs.
