May 12, 2022 - Day 43 - Hop on Hop off Edinburgh

 We ate breakfast in the hotel that morning. That was a mistake. It was 14 GBP each and was buffet style except that you could also order omelettes and such off a menu for no extra charge. I ordered Eggs Benedict and was really disappointed. It was supposed to be served on sourdough toast and instead it was a very stale slice of wholegrain bread. One egg was warm and overcooked and one was cold and undercooked. The buffet was small and some of the stuff looked old. 1 of 10, do not recommend.

After getting a map from the concierge we walked across a bridge and over to the place where we could pay for a tour. We paid for the Hop on Hop off 24 hour bus pass and it was worth it. We took the tour bus that went to Leith and then the city tour and they were both really informative, gave us a feel for the city, and we found out that there was more stuff to see than we would have time for on this trip. We will need to come back to Edinburgh some time in the future!

After a quick lunch we hopped on the city tour bus.

We had made reservations at Purslane, far in advance of our trip, and we set off walking to our destination, and unfortunately we got caught in a light rain. Dinner was amazing though.

Scallops a la plancha with cauliflower puree, roasted cauliflower,
sauce grenobloise and brown shrimp

Pancetta wrapped pork loin, braised pork cheek, roasted pork belly, carrot and star anise puree, apple puree, Granny Smith and pickled carrots

Roast breast of mallard with confit duck leg and potato gateaux,
chicken liver parfait, tender stem broccoli, orange puree and red wine jus

Pre-dessert, a rhubarb infused panna cotta in strawberry soup.

Chocolate and raspberry mousse, raspberry coulis, tulle,
blood orange pate de fruit and raspberry sorbet for me.

After our meal we took a taxi to The Jazz Bar.
 


We then walked, uphill (so many hills!), to our hotel.
