The Tuileries Jardin (Garden)
Yours truly with a much needed cup of coffee in one hand and my "sunbrella" in the other. It rained later so we were glad to have the umbrella with us.
Now for the L'Orangerie Musee where we saw the famous oval rooms with Monet's "Water Lilies" on the walls and many, many amazing paintings and drawings. We saw Every. Last. Picture. My feet hurt.
Paul Gaugin
Claude Monet
Renoir
Cezanne
Monet designed these oval rooms, with natural light coming from a huge skylight, to showcase his "Water Lilies" huge paintings that circle the room. It is amazing and calm and was meant for the people of France to be a tranquil area and an escape from the travails of World War I.
Not so tranquil art from Georgio de Chirico. We loved everything we saw by this artist and now we will look for more of his work.
Utrillo. Some of his work was beautiful, some of it was very disturbing.
Marie Laurencin, and artist we had never heard of. This is her portrait of Coco Chanel. Beautiful.
Another Matisse
Pablo Picasso
Forgot the artist but this painting is named "The Fiance".
Marc Chagall's "Homage to Apollinaire" refers to Guillaume Apollinaire's "The Clock of Tomorrow". It was Apollinaire who coined the word "surrealism".
"Nude Descending a Staircase" by Marcel Duchamp.
After the museum we walked through the rest of the Tuileries Jardin and found an outdoor place for lunch and wine, then walked past the Louvre and headed to Gay Pride Paris. The crowds were huge! We had so much fun. I'll post pictures later, for now I'm wiped out.
A bientot!
A bientot!
Danny: Tess, you're doing a great job curating the museum, the Vermeer is quite good, simple, vibrant, but his work definitely fell off as he got older.
ReplyDeleteTess: Remind you of anyone?
Danny: And I always confuse Monet and Manet. Now which one married his mistress?
Tess: Monet.
Danny: Right, and then Manet had syphilis.
Tess: They also painted occasionally.
"They also painted occasionally."
