Day 4 in Puerto Vallarta - The Malecon, sculptures, Our Lady of Guadalupe church

There is a beautiful boardwalk, or malecon, along the waterfront in Old Town, PV. I decided that we needed to walk the whole length of it (about one mile) to see all of the sculptures I knew were there from my previous trip here about 24 years ago. I was not disappointed:

We then spent way too much time inside a tequilaria talking to a super friendly woman (American) who gave us free shots of some excellent tequila and then tried to talk us into visiting a hotel for a 75 minute presentation: "no pressure, you get a free breakfast, and discount tickets to a boat ride" and she wouldn't take no for an answer. Except we're not going to the presentation. Period. She did give us a coupon for free guacamole at a restaurant near the church and since we were going to eat there anyway (recommended by our host) that worked out okay. We finished walking the malecon:

Our Lady of Guadalupe Church is uphill from the ocean by about 4 blocks.
Look what we found on the way to the cathedral!
 Also this wonderful seating.

 Looking downhill towards the ocean.
 Street art.

Our Lady of Guadalupe church. Not overly large, but look at the crown (corona) on top of it.

This is what it looked like in 1965.

I'm sad that we'll be leaving on the day that the festival starts here for Our Lady of Guadalupe. I guess it's a site to behold for days, with candle lit processions, music, parades, etc.

Lunch was at Casa Tradicional, tasty and authentic Mexican food, and there were good musicians when we were there, they'll play requests for a $100 peso tip ($5 USD). I asked for a Cuban song and they played one of my favorites from the Buena Vista Social Club CD.

We did some light shopping (gotta bring back those souvenir t-shirts for the grandsons!) and sight seeing and then back to our place to relax, sit by the pool, and write yesterdays blog post.

Dinner that night was at The Swedes, just one block from our place. Very, very good food (Don had the steak tips with pasta and a gorgonzola sauce and I had mushroom risotto) and we both had the gazpacho.
A picture of Elizabeth Taylor on the wall of The Swedes. Our waiter informed us that her house here in PV is now a restaurant called Casa Kimberley. It's actually a very nice hotel and upscale restaurant with gorgeous views of the city. I'm not sure if we'll go there.

Our view from the 2nd floor at The Swedes. Here's a tip, don't sit up there unless you like hearing music videos from the huge TV over the bar. The whole time you are dining.

After dinner we went strolling along the malecon again where we stopped in at Cuates y Cuetes for beers and music. It's become our favorite bar here in Puerto Vallarta.
