Puerto Vallarta! Food, food, food.

We got up stupid early to catch our 6 am flight to Mexico (my fault, I saw that the flight was full and everyone had to check in at the counter and I panicked). We got up at 2:30! Luckily, we both got some sleep on the plane.

Our wonderful hosts, Ben and Oscar, met us at the airport and drove us to our home for the next 11 days. It is a lovely little apartment with a swimming pool and patio just outside our door. The building is home to many artists and there is art everywhere in the common areas!
 On the elevator doors.

We did nothing our first day here except eat lots of really good food, drink, and stroll along the malecon (boardwalk). Lunch was on the beach at La Palapa:

Tuna tartar tostadas, ceviche, guacamole with grilled cheese, tortilla soup.
The view from our table.
We strolled the malecon (boardwalk)

After all of that we desperately needed a siesta,so we went home for a nap. It's quite the workout just getting there, the place is on a hill and we're on the fourth floor and the elevator is broken.

There is a funicular to the door of this condo. I wish we had one where we're staying.
 The entrance to our building.
Cool architecture. Also, look at the angle of the street we have to walk up every time we go home. I'm going to have calves of steel at the end of this trip.

We ate at Taco Revolucion for dinner. Inexpensive and super tasty. The chips and salsa were a revelation: a creamy avocado salsa, a medium spicy roasted tomato salsa, and an habanero, mango and pineapple salsa that could kill you. It was so tasty that I kept eating little bits of it on chips but my hair almost caught fire.

I had three tacos: pork adobado, al pastor, and shrimp with coleslaw. Don had al pastor and chorizo tacos. Just the best food and I drank a margarita and Don had an excellent beer, Columbo, a smoked brown ale, we'll be looking for that beer again.

Night scenes:
That's the ocean down there at the end of our street.

The "Disco Bar" on the malecon. They were playing "Brick House" when we walked by and there were plenty of people on the dance floor.
Buenos noches!

  1. Very nice Bev! Looks very warm. Thanks a lot, I'll be thinking of you at the beach as I put on my coat in the Minnesota 32F weather tomorrow. LOL! Have fun!
