Day 5 in Puerto Vallarta - market day

First I should mention that tomorrow morning (Monday) we are taking the local bus (Autotranporte Medina or just Medina bus) to Talpa de Allende, a lovely little village in the mountains. It will be about a 3 hour ride with beautiful scenery along the way. We will stay overnight and take the 5 pm bus back to PV and should probably arrive around 8 pm or so. We want to see some of the surrounding area but we didn't want to pay about $80 USD each for a tour. Don calls them "manufactured experiences".  I probably won't be blogging again until Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.

Yesterday, Saturday, is the day for farmer's markets. We wanted some provisions so I grabbed a couple of bags and off we went. We did stop at our favorite music club, Cuates y Cuetes for a second breakfast. I saw that they had a "large fruit plate" and I had just told Don that I needed more fresh fruit to eat (I eat a piece of fruit every day when possible). Don had the chilaquiles and they were super tasty and super spicey! I had a few bites.

We found the farmers market easily enough, it's in a little plaza just a block from the beach. Lots of food vendors, some produce, baked goods, and things like soap, pottery, jewelry, etc. Don forgot to take any pictures of the market except for this one:
We walked around the neighborhood:

A tapas place that gets amazing reviews. We want to eat here at some point during our stay.
Another jazz club! We'll have to check out their website.

Rainbow stairs. I did mention that Puerto Vallarta is the gay capital of Mexico City? No? Well now you know.

Some observations about PV:
There is a pharmacy on every block. Seriously, there are small pharmacies on every block.
The water is safe to drink from the tap in our building and almost all of the hotels and restaurants also have filtered tap water.
It's very hilly here. Every road from the beach goes straight up. I haven't seen a lot of wheelchairs or walkers and I don't know how disabled people manage here. Plus the roads are mostly cobblestone.
Taxis are everywhere. I'm not calling Uber again.
90% of the Mexican workers we have met speak English.
The expat Americans and Canadians seem to out number the Mexicans in this  area by 2 to 1 at least. We are staying in Old Town also know as Zona Romatica.

Lunch was just a grilled pork sandwich we bought at the farmers market.

Sunsets are usually very nice here so we thought we would have dinner at a restaurant on the beach and watch the sunset:

Our view from the 2nd floor of the La Langosta Loca restaurant (the Crazy Lobster)
A margarita as big as my head.
Unfortunately it was cloudy so we didn't get to see the sunset.

When you finally have the lobster dinner you've been wanting since you arrived in Puerto Vallarta.
The road to our place. Then we climb 4 flights of stairs.
More of the art in our building:

Buenos noches!
