Tuesday, April 12, 2022 - Day 13 Rostrevor

We woke up to a misty morning and the prediction was for rain all day. Not wanting to be indoors the whole day we went for a walk in the early morning to the Ross Monument. It's only about 3/4 of a mile away, through town and along Carlingford Loch.

There are so many mussel shells along the sides of the path from birds dropping them to crack them open and get at the meat inside. I think a park employee must sweep them all to the sides of the path since there aren't many on the actual path at all.

We stayed home the rest of the day, Don worked and I cleaned and did the laundry. A home swap is different from a vacation where you stay in a hotel in that you usually stay longer (but not always) and you have to clean the place yourself. On a lot of vacations, and shorter home swaps, we come home with a suitcase full of dirty clothes and throw them in the wash. We've been here for almost two weeks and didn't bring lots of clothes so we have to do the laundry, plus we have to wash our towels and linens. A rainy day is good for that. I also did some light cleaning of the house, three floors worth! Plus, the washer and dryer is on the third floor so I've really been getting a work out.

We also cook a lot of meals at home, and depending upon what you order in a cafe or restaurant (cough - anything with potatoes - cough) you get a massive amount of food and can take the leftovers home and eat them the next day. I made potato pancakes from the leftover mashed from my meal at Diamonds Cafe, and with the leftover roast beef, Don and I had lunch. I made fish tacos for dinner. That's it, not every day is a grand adventure!
