Wednesday, April 6, 2022 - Day 7 Warrenpoint

The weather is really changeable here, sunny and the birds singing one moment, cloudy and raining the next. Repeat several times in one day and it makes it hard to plan outings. The forecast for today was cool, windy, and sunny in the morning, intermittant showers after 1pm.

Not wanting to stay in all of the time, and needing a wider variety of groceries than we can get in the little store here in Rostrevor, we drove to the next town, Warrenpoint. It is about twice the size of Rostrevor and has more options for dining and at least one store that is larger than the one here. We ate at Diamonds Restaurant, good food and reasonable prices and with really good coffee. We were seated right next to Kevin from Fearons! It's not surprising to run into the owner of Fearons since Warrenpoint is so close to Rostrevor, we could walk there if we wanted to, it's about 2 1/2 miles from us.

We do plan on walking along the waterfront towards Warrenpoint when the weather is nicer but right now I still feel the need to practice driving before we set off on a longer adventure. This drive was perfect, I had to drive through town and take round-abouts, and back up a lot, and park in a really tight space. I'm much more confident about my driving here now. I still dislike having to shift and concentrate on driving on the left, I wish automatic shift cars were more popular here.

When we got back to the house the sun was out so we thought we would go for a quick walk after we put away the groceries. Then it started raining so Don is working and I'm doing the laundry. As I'm typing this the sun has come out again and it has quit raining but the clouds are moving rapidly so it will be raining again in about ten minutes.

If we were only in Ireland for just two weeks or so we would go out and see the sights every day, rain or shine. But, since we have the luxury of staying here in the UK for six weeks, plus four days in Dublin, and a week in Stockholm, Sweden, we don't feel that we have to get out every day and go somewhere. Right now, even though the sun is out, it's only in the high 40's with wind gusts of up to 40mph and a chance of rain at any moment, so it's a good day to do the laundry and for Don to put in a few hours at work. Later, we'll go to the liquor store and pick up some wine and whiskey and then enjoy an evening by the fire and watch an episode of "Killing Eve".

Well. I just walked to the liquor store since it was still sunny out. I took about ten minutes choosing wine and vodka and a sample size of gin for Don to try. It was pouring rain when I came out! I have a small umbrella so my head didn't get wet but my purse did, it's drying out now. Phooey.
