Tuesday, April 5, 2022 - Day 6 Rostrevor and the Cloghmore Stone

Since the weather report showed rain in the afternoon but just windy and cool in the morning we decided to see the Cloghmore Stone in the morning and then stay in for the rest of the day.

You can hike up to the stone from Kilbroney Park, but we decided to take it easy until we have done some more light hiking and toughened up our legs, and instead drove up as far as we could go by car. There is still a bit of a hike to get up there, it's a steep trail, but easy to navigate. Well worth it for the views.

The drive up to the stone

Nice views just from the car park.

The path from the car park.

Lovely little stream

Pretty path and bridge, for mountain bikers only!

Many signs like this, no pedestrians, bikers only. Rostrevor and the Mourne Mountains have some of the best mountain biking trails in all of the UK.

Steadily ascending

Carlingford Loch

Heading back down was hard on the hips and ankles.

After we got back the idea of a juicy hamburger at the Rostrevor Inn seized us, so we put on our rain coats and headed out, but to no avail. Almost all of the restaurants in Rostrevor are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and I suspect that's true in the neighboring town of Warrenpoint  as well. So we picked up some chicken curry from the small hot food counter at the grocery store. The checker at the store did tell us that the Kilbroney Park Cafe was probably open and I googled it when we got back to the house. It is open 7 days a week until 5pm and serves breakfast and lunch and has an onsite bakery. We'll have to check it out soon.
